As the world celebrates International day of the girl child, Centre for Learning and Educational Development Advocacy (CLEDA) Africa, joins the global community to strengthen and support girl progress in Kaduna state.
We therefore wish to use this opportunity to announce the completion of a vocational skill training of 150 girls in Pampaida and Saulawa Community of Ikara Local Government Area of Kaduna State-Nigeria.
The training which lasted for 3 weeks, began on 21st of September and focused on 5 skill areas namely:
Bead Making
Candle Production
Bar Soap production
Snacks Making and
School Chalk production.
Sponsored by Connect-To-Learn (a United State based Initiative), the project was initiated by Millenium Promise, Pampaida Nigeria, under the sustainable District project and was executed and fully implemented by CLEDA Africa.
The objective of the project was to promote girl child education, prepare the girl child for a better future and empower the girl child financially to ensure they remain in school. This is because, available data has had shown that of the over 7 billion population of the world, over 1.1 billion are girls. These girls are engine of National development, they are creative, talented, full of abilities and potentials but culture, traditions, religion, poverty, illiteracy etc have stood to hinder and limit the full development of the girls child.
One of these hindrance to girl child development had been identified to be child marriage. Globally, a report had shown that 1 in 7 adolescent girls aged 15-19 are currently married or in a union. This is even worst in developing countries where 1 in 3 girls get married off before they turn 18.
It has also been reported, that "everyday in developing countries over 20,000 girls under the age of 18 gives birth (this increases the world population by 7 million annually).
We are therefore hopeful that the 2030 Agenda will address these issues and help young girls unlock their potentials.
At CLEDA Africa, we are playing our paKaduna state that has less government presence.
This is the best way to stand up for girls progress everywhere.rt to support girls and we call on World Leaders, Federal Government and Kaduna State Government, to replicate the model of Pampaida village project in Identified rural communities with less government presence.
Standing with girls, is standing with Sustainable development goals.
